Save the date - Keeping Infant Mental Health in Focus in Times of Crisis

Webinars for WAIMH Members and WAIMH 2021 registrants for the 17th WAIMH World Congress for Infant Mental Health. Now is the time during which we would be preparing to meet in Brisbane for the 17th World Congress of WAIMH. We are saddened that the world has changed so much, that a meeting in person is not possible during this year. Instead of meeting in person, we will be meeting online, however, this is not a substitute for the Congress which will be held, as planned, in Brisbane in June 2021. The Webinar aims to connect us through virtual space, giving us the opportunity to share information and insights about crises that affect our infants globally. We are fortunate to have gathered our colleagues from all corners of the globe to speak to us and to allow for us to interact with them. (Some questions can be responded to through the “chat” function on the Zoom platform). We plan for three webinars, to make it possible for live interactions in different time zones. We will also plan to record the webinars, so that they may be retrieved at a later time. We encourage you to diarise the below three webinars;

WAIMH 2020 – Important Announcement – New Dates

Thank you for your patience whilst we have been busy working to re-schedule arrangements for WAIMH 2020.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, the WAIMH Executive Committee and Organising Committee have concluded that WAIMH 2020 must be postponed.

The new dates for the 17th World Congress of the World Association for Infant Mental Health will be 23 – 27 June 2021.

The extensive planning and preparations for WAIMH 2020 are completely transferable to the new dates, by which time we anticipate that the thirst for knowledge and personal collaboration throughout the infant mental health community can and will be met with an extremely successful WAIMH Congress in Brisbane, Australia.

As part of the evolution towards a successful congress in 2021, the Congress Committee and WAIMH will keep in touch with delegates over the course of this year in the lead up providing updates and important information. Online materials and resources about how IMH can support families especially in this COVID-19 crisis will be shared. We welcome the opportunity for people to share their experiences from different countries around the world.

Given that the COVID-19 situation around the world continues to change rapidly, it is the intention of the WAIMH Organising Committee to work towards delivering WAIMH 2020 in Brisbane in June 2021. During the next 6-month period, the Organising Committee will be monitoring the situation regarding international travel restrictions and various country situations and are willing and able to adapt the delivery of the WAIMH Congress should a hybrid (face-to-face and virtual attendance options) or virtual Congress be required.

What happens now?

We understand that the postponement of this Congress raises questions in regards to current registrations, payments, accepted abstracts, program and accommodation booked.

We recognise the importance of connection to culture, land, kinship and community to the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families. We acknowledge the cultural practices and traditions still carried out today and being passed down to future generations.

Welcome

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in the 17th World Congress of the World Association for Infant Mental Health (WAIMH), to be held from June 23 to 27, 2021 in Brisbane, Australia.

Following in the footsteps of previous WAIMH congresses, mutual exchange that crosses disciplinary boundaries will be at the heart of the 2021 Brisbane congress. We are looking forward to welcoming scientists and infant mental health experts from across the world, for an exchange of scientific research, clinical experience, theoretical ideas and socio-political ideas. We call on infant mental health experts to submit proposals in order to bring together diverse clinical experience, scientific knowledge and cultural views and to enable an international exchange among colleagues from international and interdisciplinary fields.

Brisbane is a green city with an enviable subtropical climate and diverse population known for its vibrant urban precincts, outdoor lifestyle and friendly locals, which makes it a relaxed place for us to meet. While you are here, consider taking the opportunity to explore further afield and visit some of the beautiful sights of our amazing country.

About WAIMH2021

Australia is an ancient land, created from many and varied stories. Indigenous stories of a deep connection to land, wind, water and Elders past, present and future. Stories of hardship, loss, and trauma; and stories of great courage, perseverance and mate ship. Stories of multiculturalism, refuge, hope and new beginnings.

The Congress theme, ‘Creating stories in Infant Mental Health: research, recovery and regeneration’, invites you to create stories that will help infants thrive to live compassionate, creative and productive lives, and to share those stories with the wider Infant Mental Health community from around the world.
